Beaumont, Texas – A tractor trailer owner is facing a suit that seeks in excess of $1 million in damages for an accident caused by an allegedly defective brake light.
It was on 11th August that Rojaramani B Thronagiri Basisthagorata (A/K/A Roja Thronagiri) filed her lawsuit against Warrenville, IL-based BTS Logistics (D/B/A Bekins Tradeshow Services) in the Jefferson County District Court in Beaumont, Texas. Roja Thronagiri was suing the company individually and as the administratrix of the estate of deceased Rama B Reddy Jammuladinne and as the next friend of minors Kirthi Reddy Jammuladinne and Meghana Reddy Jammuladinne.
According to Basisthagorta, Rama Jammuladinne had been driving a minivan – a Toyota Sienna – on Interstate Hwy 10 (I-10) in Jefferson County (TX) on 2nd April, 2014. The 2007 Volvo truck owned by defendant BTS Logistics was straight in front of Rama Jammuladinne’s minivan, the suit says. The complaint states that the truck was hauling a trailer weighing in excess of 10,000 pounds.
Basisthagorta states that an accident in the westbound lane compelled the truck driver to slow down his vehicle, but the brake light and taillight allegedly didn’t function. As a result, Rama Jammuladinne did not realize that the tractor trailer was slowing down, the suit states. So his vehicle hit the rear of the tractor trailer at the full highway speed, according to the plaintiff.
Basisthagorta claims in her suit that Rama Jammuladinne sustained “horrific injuries” because of the accident which is likely to render him disabled permanently for the rest of his life. She argues that Rama Jammuladinne had been in a vegetative state for quite a few months. He emerged capable just of extremely basic interaction with his family members, according to the complaint.
Basisthagorta claims that the defendant was negligent in causing the accident. The defendant allegedly: failed to properly inspect as well as repair the non-functional brake light and taillight of the tractor trailer; failed to provide essential notice to the vehicles behind the truck while slowing down; and failed to keep safe distance from other vehicles.
In her lawsuit, Roja Thronagiri is seeking in excess of $1M for Basisthagorta’s alleged physical pain and suffering; medical costs; physical disfigurement; lost wages; physical disability; mental anguish; attorney fees; and court costs. Additionally, Roja Thronagiri is seeking damages for two children of Jammuladinne for their alleged loss of consortium.
